Minnesota Vikings name eight team captains and adjust player jersey numbers

The Minnesota Vikings announced eight players as team captains for the 2026 season. The leadership group includes Brian O’Neill, Josh Metellus, Andrew DePaola, Kyler Murray, Justin Jefferson, Andrew Van Ginkel, Blake Cashman, and Aaron Jones. Alongside the leadership designations, the team finalized several jersey number updates for the roster. Linebacker Chaz Chambliss returned to number 32, a change facilitated by the vacancy left after Jamal Adams sustained a season-ending injury in the opener. Additionally, the team assigned new numbers to Zemaiah Vaughn, Brett Thorson, Jacob Thomas, Bryce Phillips, and Michael Briscoe. Several former Minnesota players also secured new roles across the NFL, including Nick Vannett joining the Baltimore Ravens practice squad, Fabian Moreau signing with the Washington Commanders, James Lynch moving to the Chicago Bears, and Tyler Conklin joining the Detroit Lions.
