Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu is preparing for the 49kg class at the upcoming Asian Games in Nagoya-Aichi. The 32-year-old athlete, who holds a Tokyo Olympics silver medal and multiple Commonwealth Games titles, seeks her first Asian Games medal after previous appearances in Incheon and Hangzhou. Chanu opted to remain in a New Delhi training camp following her performance in Glasgow this past July rather than returning to her home state of Manipur. She acknowledged the competitive nature of the field, noting the traditional strength of weightlifters from North Korea and China. Chanu has trained under coach Vijay Sharma since 2014 and continues to emphasize drug-free training and discipline as central components of her athletic career. Her competition is scheduled for September 23.
