MJF takes time off from AEW amid recovery from injuries

A lot of AEW fans have been wondering if something is up with former world champion MJF, who reportedly pushed to have his title loss to Kenny Omega take place earlier this month (July 8) on Dynamite Beach Break instead of this Sunday (July 26) at the AEW Redemption pay-per-view in Montreal. MJF is now missing from AEW programming and not booked on the company’s brand new July PPV event. On a call today with the media, AEW President Khan put to rest any concerns that MJF will be gone from AEW for much longer. Khan says the scumbag’s body is hurting after working through significant injuries this year, so he’s taking a little time off to recover while the rest of AEW’s very deep roster picks up the slack in his absence. “MJF was in a very hard-hitting match with Kenny Omega [and] has been an incredible fighting champion in 2026, doing something very different than in his previous time as the champion before 2026. MJF’s been out on TV, on pay-per-view, even on house shows fighting in big matches. MJF is not a nice guy, not a nice person. But he is a great wrestler, and we love having him as a part of AEW when he’s healthy. …That’s what’s tremendous about having such a strong roster of wrestlers, being able to not have to pressure them, because we want to extend these wrestlers’ careers. And in the case of an MJF, that’s somebody that I hope is wrestling for decades and decades at a very top level. He’s a very young man, and he’s had some major injuries this year that he’s been fighting through, as a credit to him. I think it speaks highly of MJF.” Khan reiterated that MJF will return soon. “I’m looking forward to MJF’s return to AEW when he’s back, which he will be back very soon, I’m sure.
