MLS clubs record spending and revenue after hosting the 2026 World Cup

Major League Soccer clubs set league records for both incoming and outgoing transfer activity this summer. Teams spent more than $370 million on new talent while generating $218 million in transfer revenue. The surge in roster investment included the addition of Antoine Griezmann, Robert Lewandowski, Breel Embolo, and Casemiro, with eight clubs completing record signings. Twenty of the newly signed players participated in the 2026 World Cup, reflecting the impact of the tournament on the league. Real Salt Lake also completed a $15 million transfer of Zavier Gozo to Crystal Palace, marking the second-largest sale of a Homegrown Player in league history. This period represents the second consecutive year in which the league has surpassed $200 million in total transfer revenue.
