MLS NEXT begins seventh season of youth player development

The MLS NEXT youth platform officially opens its 2026-27 campaign this weekend, continuing its role in the North American player development pipeline. This season represents the platform's seventh year and features a two-tier competition structure including the MLS NEXT Allstate Homegrown Division and the MLS NEXT Academy Division. The league remains a primary source for talent, with 162 alumni currently on professional MLS rosters and over 1,600 players transitioning to the collegiate level. New for the current year, organizers have expanded team participation across marquee events such as the MLS NEXT FEST, the Generation adidas Cup, and the MLS NEXT Cup. Additionally, clubs will now have access to performance-analysis tools from Taka to track individual player metrics and development plans.
