Mobile Parks and Recreation volleyball team begins training for upcoming season

The Mobile Parks and Recreation Department’s Special Olympics volleyball team officially started practice on Tuesday, Sept. 8. The team returns to the court following a historic season that included a trip to the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games. Training sessions will occur every Monday through Dec. 1, focusing on skill development alongside team-building activities. Therapeutic recreation specialist LaDarrell Bell and athlete Tyler Smith participated in a television broadcast segment to discuss the team's transition into the new training cycle. The program aims to maintain its competitive momentum while continuing to prioritize social and athletic growth for the roster. Athletes are expected to maintain this weekly schedule for the duration of the current training block.
