Motor City Cruise hire Steve Scalzi as new head coach

The Motor City Cruise, the G League affiliate of the Detroit Pistons, named Steve Scalzi as their new head coach on Thursday. Scalzi will transition into the role for the 2026-27 season, succeeding Jamelle McMillan as the third head coach in franchise history. He joins the Cruise after serving as an assistant coach for the Detroit Pistons for three seasons, where he focused on player development. Earlier this summer, Scalzi led the Detroit Pistons during the 2026 NBA Summer League. His previous experience includes coaching tenures with the Phoenix Suns and the Oklahoma City Blue, the G League affiliate of the Oklahoma City Thunder. The remainder of the Cruise coaching staff will return, with Terrell Strickland joining the team as a coaching associate.
