Mount St. Mary's begins construction on Rooney Athletic Performance Center

Mount St. Mary’s broke ground Wednesday on the Rooney Athletic Performance Center in Emmitsburg, Maryland. The project is funded by a $6 million donation from the late John J. Rooney and Patrick J. Rooney, brothers and 1960 graduates of the university. The 28,000-square-foot facility will feature a strength and conditioning space, sports medicine areas, and four multi-use courts for basketball, volleyball, and tennis. This construction allows for the expansion of other campus athletic facilities, including a dedicated indoor practice space for track and field in the existing field house. School officials anticipate the new strength and conditioning and sports medicine areas will open by the fall of 2027. The project serves as a tribute to the Rooney family’s long-standing connection to the university.
