Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho stated that Kylian Mbappe is deserving of the Ballon d'Or, emphasizing that the award should recognize the best player rather than reflect success in tournaments like the Champions League or World Cup. Mourinho highlighted Mbappe's historic achievement of becoming the all-time leading scorer in World Cup history and noted that he was the top scorer in La Liga, the Champions League, and the recent World Cup, despite not clinching a major trophy. The coach's comments come ahead of Madrid's match against Malaga in La Liga. Mbappe scored a hat-trick in a recent win over Real Sociedad, further boosting his candidacy for the prestigious award.
