Nagoya flooding leaves Asian Games venues and athletes unharmed

Extensive flooding in Nagoya, Japan, has not impacted athletes or facilities scheduled to host the upcoming Asian Games. Mayor Ichiro Hirosawa confirmed Wednesday that venues remain in condition to proceed as planned for the event, which runs from September 19 through October 4. Approximately 400 athletes and staff living in temporary shipping container housing were briefly evacuated to higher ground during heavy rainfall on Tuesday. While local infrastructure experienced disruptions including subway and bus suspensions, officials reported only minor issues such as leaking roofs at the dozens of sites designated for competition. The Asian Games will host more than 11,000 athletes from 45 countries and regions. Emergency officials noted that roughly 3,500 residents sought refuge in evacuation centers due to record-breaking rain that submerged roads and homes throughout the city.
