Naraku faces Mason Rook for NXT title shot on June 9

WWE loaded up on fresh new talent recently for its NXT brand, a necessary move after multiple top stars from said brand were called up to the main roster. Two of those names, Naraku and Mason Rook, have established themselves as main event level guys right away, at least as far as the booking is concerned. Naraku, the artist formerly known as EVIL in New Japan Pro Wrestling, has been making sure Tony D’Angelo is NXT champion so he can be the one to take it from him. Rook, meanwhile, who is big and bad and may, in fact, body slam your dad, has been hanging around himself, eager to get his own opportunity. That meant the two linking up for a number one contender’s match on this week’s episode of NXT television, with the winner promised a shot at D’Angelo’s title at the upcoming Great American Bash event scheduled for June 28 on The CW Network. The two actually put together a really fun match that should have gone to a clean finish. But of course it didn’t. Kam Hendrix showed up and hopped the apron, leading to Rook losing his focus just long enough for Naraku to take him down and score a pinfall victory. That sets up Rook vs. Hendrix but more importantly it gives us a main event for the next PLE, one airing on free TV: D’Angelo vs. Naraku.
