Bryan Backus, a tire changer for Joe Gibbs Racing, narrowly avoided serious injury during a crash on pit road at a NASCAR event last weekend. Backus was preparing for a routine tire change when another car spun out, causing a multi-car pileup. He described the incident as intense, stating that if he had been positioned just one foot to the left, the outcome could have been fatal. Fortunately, he only experienced stiffness in his ankle afterward. Originally from Walton, New York, Backus transitioned to NASCAR after competing in college sports. His next event will be the Craftsman Truck Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway on September 17.
