Nashville officials plan for recurring Labor Day college football matchups

Nashville Sports Council representatives are working to establish high-profile season-opening college football games as an annual Labor Day tradition at Nissan Stadium. This effort follows the hosting of a game between Louisville and Ole Miss, which was part of a larger weekend of athletic events including a volleyball doubleheader at Bridgestone Arena. Scott Ramsey, CEO of the Nashville Sports Council, indicated that the city aims to secure future matchups in collaboration with the Tennessee Titans. While scheduling challenges persist due to the complexity of conference and television agreements, Georgia and Florida State are already slated for a future appearance in 2028. The city is also considering bids for other collegiate championships, such as NCAA women's soccer and volleyball, to expand its role as a multi-sport host during the opening weekend of the college season.
