NBC Sports Philadelphia plans to add courtside voice for Sixers broadcasts

Summary

NBC Sports Philadelphia is considering hiring a courtside voice for its Sixers broadcasts in anticipation of LeBron James's arrival this season. Alexandra Matcham, the network's vice president of content, emphasized the need for on-court insight and interviews that current broadcasters cannot provide. The team lacked a courtside reporter since 2020, when the network eliminated such positions. Matcham indicated that the new role might differ from previous models and could focus specifically on James, potentially improving viewer experience after a historically low local announcer ranking for the current broadcasting team. The network aims to address burnout among current staff as the team roster evolves.
