Nebraska's women's flag football team will begin competition in 2027, moving up from the previously planned 2027-28 academic year. The team will be coached by Liz Sowers, a five-time national champion at Ottawa University, with her sister Katie Sowers as associate head coach. Games will take place at Barbara Hibner Field, the current home for the Huskers' soccer program. Nebraska is the first school in a Power Four conference to introduce a women's flag football team. The Big 12 is exploring the addition of flag football by 2028.
