The New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers share the NFL record for the most Super Bowl victories, with each franchise claiming six titles. Only 20 of the league's 32 teams have secured at least one championship since the first Super Bowl was played following the 1966 season. The Steelers built their success largely during the 1970s, while the New England Patriots achieved all six of their championships during the tenure of head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady. Other franchises, including the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys, follow with five wins each. Currently, 12 teams in the league have never won a Super Bowl, with four of those clubs never having made an appearance in the championship game. Two former titleholders, the Chicago Bears and New York Jets, hold the longest active droughts among teams that have secured a championship.
