New Orleans Saints waive kicker Charlie Smyth

Summary

The New Orleans Saints released kicker Charlie Smyth ahead of the upcoming NFL season. The 25-year-old Northern Irish athlete, who joined the team through the international player pathway, struggled during the pre-season with misses against the Jacksonville Jaguars and other roster challenges. Daniel Carlson, a two-time All-Pro kicker, secured the roster spot after a successful performance in the Saints' 27-24 pre-season victory over the Dallas Cowboys. Despite the release, Smyth remains eligible for practice squad consideration or potential signing by other NFL teams. The Saints are scheduled to open their regular season against the Detroit Lions on September 13.
