New York Jets claim kicker Blake Grupe off waivers

The New York Jets claimed kicker Blake Grupe off waivers on Monday, securing him as the starting placekicker for the team's opening game. The move follows a period of roster instability at the position, during which the franchise experimented with Younghoe Koo, Will Ferrin, Cade York, and Lenny Krieg. Veteran Jason Sanders, who previously competed for the role, was cut and subsequently signed to the practice squad to continue working on his mechanics. Grupe joins the Jets after appearing in 45 games for the New Orleans Saints, where he converted 79.8 percent of his field goal attempts. He also spent time with the Indianapolis Colts in 2025, hitting all 11 of his attempts. During the 2026 preseason, Grupe converted two of four field goal attempts, including misses from the 30-39 and 50-plus yard ranges.
