Newcastle United loans teenage defender Leo Shahar to Portuguese club FC Arouca

Newcastle United confirmed on Friday that 19-year-old defender Leo Shahar has joined Portuguese club FC Arouca on a season-long loan. The full-back recently made his senior debut for the Premier League side during a Champions League match against Qarabağ FK in February. Following the departure of Kieran Trippier and an injury to Tino Livramento, Shahar had been involved in the senior squad setup under manager Matthias Jaissle early this season. The loan aims to provide the defender with consistent senior-level playing time in the Primeira Liga. Shahar is one of several young players sent out by Newcastle recently, joining teammates Rory Finneran and Sean Neave who have moved to other clubs on temporary deals. FC Arouca is currently in third place in the league table, offering a competitive environment for his development.
