The NFL Sunday Ticket service faced criticism from subscribers on October 8, 2026, after some viewers were unable to access the highly anticipated Seattle Seahawks versus San Francisco 49ers matchup due to a blackout caused by bonus coverage of the New York Giants and Washington Commanders game, which went into overtime. Subscribers reported missing the first 10 minutes of the Seahawks-49ers game, despite paying for unfettered access to out-of-market games. This incident has raised questions about the league’s commitment to delivering a premium viewing experience, as many fans feel shortchanged by the restrictions imposed when bonus coverage is involved. Calls for a re-evaluation of the service's policies have intensified, with suggestions for a system that allows simultaneous access to multiple games without interruptions due to local broadcast obligations.
