NFL teams begin signing players to 16-man practice squads

NFL teams commenced signing players to 16-man practice squads this week following final roster cutdowns on Sunday. Practice squads, which evolved from mid-century taxi squads, currently allow teams to carry up to 16 players, including six veterans with unlimited prior league experience. Teams may elevate two players from these squads to the active roster each week, with individuals eligible to be activated a maximum of three times per season. International Pathway Program players also remain eligible for designated spots that do not count against the 16-man limit. Several organizations, including the Baltimore Ravens, Denver Broncos, and Philadelphia Eagles, have already announced their initial practice squad compositions. These units serve as essential depth for organizations managing active rosters throughout the regular season.
