NFL teams begin signing players to 16-man practice squads

NFL teams commenced signing players to 16-man practice squads this week following final roster cutdowns on Sunday. Practice squads, which evolved from mid-century taxi squads, currently allow teams to carry up to 16 players, including six veterans with unlimited prior league experience. Teams may elevate two players from these squads to the active roster each week, with individuals eligible to be activated a maximum of three times per season.
