The NHL's 2026-27 rulebook introduces mandatory neck protection for players with no NHL experience. Starting this season, new skaters and goaltenders must wear cut-resistant neck guards rated A5 or higher. This regulation does not affect players who have previously appeared in NHL games, such as Cam Lund and Igor Chernyshov, who will not require the neck protection. Other prospects, including Filip Bystedt and Quentin Musty, will need to comply with the new rule beginning this season.
