NHL Network released its top 20 defensemen rankings for the 2026 season, placing Cale Makar at number one, followed by Quinn Hughes and Zach Werenski. The rankings stirred controversy, particularly regarding Adam Fox, who was excluded from the top 10 despite strong performance metrics. Critics argue that while Fox may not have the standout statistics like others, his defensive skills and hockey IQ should warrant a higher ranking. Analysts suggest that a strong points season for Fox could improve his standing in future evaluations.
