Saban, who was then coaching at Michigan State, noted that he wanted to keep the meeting with Giants GM George Young secret. Although Saban was offered the position, he ultimately did not take it, and Jim Fassel was hired instead. Fassel led the Giants to a Super Bowl appearance in 2000. Saban later became the head coach of the Miami Dolphins in 2005.
