Nicolo Martinenghi wins European gold as Ramsay-Peaty finishes fifth

At the European Championships in Paris, Nicolo Martinenghi of Italy claimed gold in the men's 100m breaststroke, finishing in 58.58 seconds. Britain's Adam Ramsay-Peaty, a two-time Olympic champion, could only secure fifth place with a time of 59.10 seconds, despite improving on his recent Commonwealth Games performance. Russian Ivan Kozhakin took silver, finishing just 0.10 seconds behind Martinenghi, while teammate Simone Cerasuolo earned bronze. In contrasting events, Britain's Katie Shanahan won gold in the women's 200m backstroke, and the Netherlands celebrated a championship record in the women's 100m freestyle.
