Nikita Johnson claims the Indy NXT championship at Laguna Seca

Nikita Johnson secured the Indy NXT championship following the final race of the season at Laguna Seca. Driving for Cape Motorsports Powered by ECR, the 18-year-old entered the weekend with a three-point lead and finished second in both races of the season-ending doubleheader. Tymek Kucharczyk won the final race, while Enzo Fittipaldi placed second in the overall standings. This victory marks the first Indy NXT title for Johnson, who previously won the season-opening race at St. Petersburg and the Grand Prix of Alabama. The championship provides an $850,000 scholarship intended to assist the winner in securing a full-time IndyCar ride for 2027. Johnson, who also competes in the IMSA GTD Pro class, has not yet committed to a team for next season but aims to move up from the support series immediately.
