No. 23 Houston defeats Oregon State 33-20 in season opener

The No. 23 Houston Cougars opened their season with a 33-20 victory against Oregon State on Saturday. Wide receiver Amare Thomas led the offensive effort with eight catches for 133 yards and a touchdown. The Cougars also saw strong performances from running backs Makhi Hughes and Re'Shaun Sanford, who combined for 173 of the team's 228 rushing yards. Defensively, Javion White recorded two sacks, while Latreveon McCutchin contributed five quarterback pressures. Ronnell McLain provided depth on the offensive line, playing 59 snaps without allowing a pressure after replacing the injured Drew Terrill. Kicker Jonathan Dimas converted field goals of 42 and 32 yards to round out the scoring.
