The No. 23 Houston Cougars opened their season with a 33-20 victory against Oregon State on Saturday. Wide receiver Amare Thomas led the offensive effort with eight catches for 133 yards and a touchdown. The Cougars also saw strong performances from running backs Makhi Hughes and Re'Shaun Sanford, who combined for 173 of the team's 228 rushing yards.
