No. 5 Texas defeats Texas State 59-7 in season opener

The No. 5 Texas Longhorns opened their 2026 season with a 59-7 home victory over Texas State at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on September 5. Quarterback Arch Manning completed 20 of 27 passes for 305 yards and four touchdowns while adding one interception. Eleven different players recorded at least one reception for the Longhorns. Despite the lopsided final score, the Texas State offense managed 349 total yards and converted 8 of 14 third-down attempts behind quarterback Brad Jackson. Texas maintained defensive control throughout the contest, limiting the Bobcats to a single touchdown. The Longhorns now prepare for a matchup against Ohio State scheduled for next week.
