No. 9 North Carolina defeated Arizona 2-1 on Thursday evening at Mulcahy Soccer Stadium. A program-record 1,678 fans attended the match in Tucson. While the Wildcats fell to 2-2-1, they became only the second team this season to score against the Tar Heels. Arizona goalkeeper Sofia Cortes-Browne recorded five saves in the first half, including stopping a penalty kick. Head coach Becca Moros praised the team’s aggressive approach and defensive organization against the North Carolina dribbling attack. The Wildcats previously played the Tar Heels in Chapel Hill two years ago in a 2-0 match.
