Northwestern football defeats South Dakota State in Evanston

Northwestern defeated South Dakota State 34-18 on September 5 in Evanston, Illinois. The Jackrabbits trailed throughout the fourth quarter, coming within two points after a Josiah Johnson touchdown run, but an unsuccessful two-point conversion attempt kept the score at 20-18. The Wildcats secured the victory with a late drive capped by an Aidan Chiles touchdown run and an 80-yard score following a missed field goal. South Dakota State kicker Tristan Alvano made four of five field goal attempts during the contest. The Jackrabbits finished with 285 passing yards from Chase Mason, while the defense surrendered 497 total yards to Northwestern. South Dakota State hosts New Haven in its next game on September 12.
