Notre Dame reserves Matty Augustine and Chaz Smith to undergo surgery

Notre Dame football will be without offensive lineman Matty Augustine and defensive back Chaz Smith, both of whom require surgery due to injuries sustained during fall training camp. Augustine broke the fifth metatarsal in his right foot and Smith suffered a scaphoid fracture in his right wrist. Despite their injuries, both players are expected to return this season. Augustine was competing for the starting right guard position, while Smith was aiming for a reserve role and could have contributed on special teams.
