NWSL infrastructure development highlighted during women’s sports events

Summary

NWSL commissioner Jessica Berman discussed the significance of physical infrastructure for women's sports at a panel during 'Epicenter Week' in Portland. The newly opened Kaiser Permanente Performance Center, a joint facility for the WNBA's Fire and NWSL's Thorns, is emblematic of this progress. The $150 million site includes two soccer fields, basketball courts, and player-focused amenities. Nearly 75% of NWSL teams now have dedicated facilities, influencing player recruitment and organization identity. Berman emphasized that such infrastructure conveys permanence and trust in women's sports.
