Ocean Springs High School players honor the late Nolan Wells during game

Families and community members are marking the start of the football season while continuing to remember Nolan Wells, who died this July following a trip to Horn Island. During an Ocean Springs High School game on August 27, player Elmore Wonsley Jr. paid tribute to his late brother by writing his name on his eye black. Wells’ family members attended the game to support brothers Elmore Wonsley Jr. and Ethan Wonsley. Separately, teammates at Southwest Mississippi Community College have begun honoring Wells by wearing "NW" helmet decals and towels embroidered with "LLNW." The death of the 18-year-old athlete remains under investigation as his family continues to seek answers regarding his final hours. No cause or manner of death has been determined, and family attorneys have questioned the adequacy of the current investigation.
