Ohio State ranked first in ESPN’s college football preseason rankings

ESPN has ranked Ohio State at the top of its preseason college football power rankings. The Buckeyes, who won the national title in the 2024 season and reached the playoffs in 2025, return key players including quarterback Julian Sayin and wide receiver Jeremiah Smith. Sayin posted impressive numbers last season with 3,610 passing yards and 32 touchdowns, while Smith recorded 87 receptions for 1,243 yards and 12 touchdowns. Head coach Ryan Day enters his eighth season, aiming to replace several defensive starters. Ohio State opens its 2026 season against Ball State on September 5, followed by a matchup with Texas on September 12.
