Oklahoma defeats UTEP 51-0 in preparation for game against Michigan

Oklahoma opened its season with a 51-0 victory over UTEP on Friday night in Norman, Oklahoma. Quarterback John Mateer threw three touchdown passes and finished the night 11 of 17 for 225 yards. Isaiah Sategna provided a spark for the Sooners by recording 215 all-purpose yards, including an 88-yard punt return touchdown and a 34-yard scoring reception. Running back Lloyd Avant contributed 79 rushing yards on 15 carries to help Oklahoma outgain the Miners 401 yards to 186. The defense maintained the shutout throughout the contest, which concluded after UTEP missed a field goal attempt in the fourth quarter. Oklahoma now shifts its focus to a non-conference matchup scheduled for September 12 at Michigan.
