Oklahoma rises to eleventh in FPI rankings after defeating UTEP

The Oklahoma Sooners improved to the No. 11 spot in ESPN's Football Power Index following a 51-0 season-opening victory against the UTEP Miners on Friday. Oklahoma controlled the game throughout, outgaining UTEP 401 to 198 total yards. Quarterback John Mateer finished 11-of-17 passing for 225 yards and three touchdowns in his return from injury. The Sooners also showed improvement in the running game, accumulating 170 yards, including 79 yards and a score from transfer running back Lloyd Avant. Having moved up from their preseason FPI ranking of No. 14, the team faces a significant test in its next matchup. Oklahoma travels to Ann Arbor this Saturday to face the Michigan Wolverines, who come off a narrow 13-12 win against the Western Michigan Broncos.
