Oklahoma Sooners move CJ Nickson from defensive line to tight end

The Oklahoma Sooners roster now lists sophomore CJ Nickson as a tight end ahead of the 2026 season. Nickson joined the program as a defensive lineman and did not appear in any games during the 2025 season. The 6-foot-4, 275-pound player joins a tight end room led by coach Jason Witten that has undergone significant changes during the offseason. This move brings the total number of tight ends on the roster to nine. It remains unclear if the position change is a permanent assignment or a temporary shift. Nickson played both offense and defense at Weatherford High School before his recruitment to Oklahoma. The coaching staff previously moved Ace Hodges from the defensive line to the offensive line earlier this winter.
