Olympian Blake Pieroni to swim Chicago River for ALS research

Olympic gold medalist Blake Pieroni will participate in the Chicago River Swim on September 20 to raise funds for ALS research. The Indiana University alum and Chesterton native joins hundreds of open water swimmers for the second annual event. Pieroni, who earned three gold medals and one silver across three Olympic Games, intends to support the cause while navigating the river conditions. Unlike competitive pool swimming, the event requires participants to sight their path without lane lines or turns. ABC7 Chicago will broadcast the swim live from 6:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. on the day of the event. Viewers may access the stream through the ABC7 website, Disney+ via the Live tab, or connected TV applications.
