Orioles claim outfielder Luis Robert Jr. off waivers from Mets

The Baltimore Orioles claimed outfielder Luis Robert Jr. off waivers from the New York Mets on Sunday. The move provides the 68-69 Orioles with additional outfield depth as they pursue the final American League wild-card berth. Baltimore currently sits one game behind the Cleveland Guardians for that playoff position. Robert Jr. has appeared in 58 games this season, battling back injuries that sidelined him for nearly three months. Under the terms of the claim, Baltimore assumes approximately $3 million of his salary for the remainder of the 2026 season. The contract also includes a $20 million club option for 2027 with a $2 million buyout. The Mets shed the remaining financial obligations and luxury tax penalties, clearing roster space for younger outfielders Carson Benge and A.J. Ewing.
