Orlando Lovejoy gains extra season of eligibility through court ruling

Point guard Orlando Lovejoy has been granted a temporary restraining order by a Kentucky circuit court, allowing him an immediate fifth season of college basketball eligibility. The ruling arrives as part of a legal challenge involving 40 athletes contesting the NCAA's decision to limit playing windows for the high-school class of 2022. Lovejoy previously earned first-team all-Horizon League honors while at Detroit Mercy, where he averaged 15.8 points and 3.7 assists per game during the 2025-26 season. Because Detroit Mercy has reached its scholarship limit, Lovejoy will move to a new program. His representatives indicate that he intends to announce a transfer destination as early as this week. Numerous other college athletes have filed similar lawsuits seeking additional eligibility, with several players already utilizing court-ordered orders to secure roster spots at various institutions.
