Oxnard junior Destinee Herrera commits to UCLA softball program

Oxnard High School junior Destinee Herrera committed to play softball at UCLA on September 5. The commitment occurred during an official visit to the university just four days after NCAA Division 1 programs were first permitted to initiate direct contact with high school juniors on September 1. Herrera, who was named CIF-Southern Section Division 4 Player of the Year, recorded a 14-4 record with a 0.96 ERA and 141 strikeouts as a sophomore. UCLA head coach Kelly Inouye-Perez and assistant coaches Mysha Sataraka and Will Oldham monitored her performance during both softball and basketball games prior to the recruiting window. Herrera selected UCLA over other interested programs including UC Santa Barbara, UC San Diego, and Houston. The recruit attributed the decision to the coaching staff's consistent personal interest in her athletic career.
