Past Miami Herald column regarding Dan Marino trade resurfaces

In November 1993, Miami Herald columnist Greg Cote published a column proposing that the Miami Dolphins trade Dan Marino. The argument followed an October 10 injury that sidelined Marino for the remainder of the season with a torn Achilles. Cote suggested the team should instead move forward with backup quarterback Scott Mitchell, who had performed well in early starts including a 30-10 win over the Kansas City Chiefs. The proposal triggered significant public debate within the Miami sports market at the time. The trade never occurred, and the Dolphins ultimately finished the season with a 9-7 record after Mitchell suffered a shoulder injury. Marino returned the following season to earn Comeback Player of the Year honors, while Mitchell eventually left for the Detroit Lions in 1994.
