Patrick Herbert signs with the Chargers practice squad

Tight end Patrick Herbert signed with the Los Angeles Chargers practice squad on August 31, 2026. The move follows his release from the Jacksonville Jaguars during roster cutdowns on August 31. Patrick Herbert joined the Jaguars as an undrafted free agent after the 2025 NFL draft and spent his rookie season on the practice squad. He reportedly fielded offers from multiple teams before choosing to join his brother, Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert, in Los Angeles. The Jaguars recently overhauled their tight end roster by selecting Nate Boerkircher and Tanner Koziol in the draft, while also retaining Brenton Strange and Quintin Morris on the 53-man roster. Patrick Herbert fills a vacancy on the Chargers practice squad after clearing league waivers.
