The Boston Red Sox face the Seattle Mariners in a series finale on Wednesday at Fenway Park. Patrick Sandoval is scheduled to start for Boston, aiming to provide length and stability for a pitching staff taxed by a 9-6 loss on Tuesday. Rookie Jedixson Paez allowed eight earned runs in the previous outing, which forced the bullpen to work 5 1/3 innings. Boston currently holds a 75-64 record and sits four games behind the New York Yankees for the top American League wild-card position. Despite a late rally in the last game that featured home runs from Mickey Gasper and Jahmai Jones, the team has lost five of its last seven contests. Providing a competitive outing from Sandoval is a priority as the club prepares for an upcoming trip to Baltimore.
