Patriots coach expects progress from edge rusher Elijah Ponder

New England Patriots outside linebackers coach Mike Smith expressed high expectations for Elijah Ponder following spring practices. Ponder, who played 15 games in his rookie season, finished third on the team in sacks. Smith indicated that Ponder has shown significant improvement, feeling more comfortable on the field. In addition, rookie Quintayvious Hutchins, drafted 247th overall, is anticipated to contribute as well, particularly as an off-ball linebacker this season. Smith noted Hutchins will provide depth behind established players Harold Landry and Dre’Mont Jones.
