Patriots starters expected to sit out preseason game against Eagles

The New England Patriots are unlikely to play their starters, including quarterback Drake Maye, in their preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles on August 22, 2026. Following joint practices leading up to the game, the decision is aimed at resting key players. Maye, who attempted 36 passes during practice, has not seen game action yet. Backup quarterback Tommy DeVito is expected to lead the offense again after a solid performance against the Indianapolis Colts, where he went 13-for-22 for 138 yards and a touchdown in a 13-13 tie.
