Patriots trade Kayshon Boutte for safety Jaylen Reed from Texans

Summary

The New England Patriots acquired Jaylen Reed from the Houston Texans on August 26, 2026, sending wide receiver Kayshon Boutte in return along with a 2028 seventh-round draft pick. Reed, a Penn State product, was selected in the 2025 draft and has 173 defensive snaps, primarily during his rookie season with the Texans, including two playoff games. His role with the Patriots remains unclear as he integrates into their defense, which is looking for a versatile player to complement existing safeties Kevin Byard and Craig Woodson. Reed is expected to contribute significantly on special teams after a productive stint in that area with Houston.
