Payton Tolle and Dominic Canzone embrace during the Boston and Seattle game

Boston Red Sox pitcher Payton Tolle and Seattle Mariners designated hitter Dominic Canzone shared an embrace during Monday's series opener. In the top of the third inning, with the Mariners trailing 3-2, Canzone grounded a 90 mph cutter back toward the mound. Tolle fielded the ball and positioned himself to block the lane to first base. Instead of executing a tagout, the pitcher opened his arms and initiated a hug with the baserunner. Canzone accepted the gesture before play continued. The encounter occurred during the early stages of a contest between the two teams.
