Pee Wee Wanninger influenced the starting history of Lou Gehrig

Paul Louis “Pee Wee” Wanninger and Lou Gehrig share a historical connection that defined the start of a legendary New York Yankees streak. On May 5, 1925, Wanninger replaced Everett Scott at shortstop, which ended Scott’s 1,307 consecutive-game streak. Less than one month later, on June 1, 1925, Wanninger was removed from the starting lineup in favor of Lou Gehrig. That substitution initiated Gehrig’s streak of 2,130 consecutive games played, a record that stood until Cal Ripken broke it in 1995.
