Penguins host memorable 2012 NHL Draft at PPG Paints Arena

On June 22, 2012, the Pittsburgh Penguins hosted the NHL Draft at PPG Paints Arena, marking the first time the event was held in the city since 1997. The team, fresh off a playoff exit to the Philadelphia Flyers, made a significant trade, sending Jordan Staal to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for the No. 8 overall pick and other assets. With that pick, the Penguins selected Derrick Pouliot, who ultimately did not meet expectations. Additionally, Brandon Sutter, acquired in the trade, played three seasons with Pittsburgh before moving to Vancouver in a deal that brought Nick Bonino and Brian Dumoulin to the team.
